The headline names in Essen had little to do with the current crop of CX racing talent – Marianne Vos and Zdenek Stybar were the names on everyone’s lips, despite the latter finishing in a lowly, but still respectable, 12th place.
The UCI Telenet Cyclocross World Cup headed to the sandy dunes of Koksijde for its fifth round. In the men’s Elite race, a first-corner crashed marred the start, a cluster of riders bouncing off each other after one rider clipped an inside barrier.
The UEC European Cyclocross Championships were held in Silvelle, Italy over the weekend, with the top riders set to do battle over a mostly flat and bumpy course. In the Men’s Elite race, the final result was no surprise: Mathieu Van Der Poel wins.
Last week, the world’s best cyclists headed to Yorkshire, England for the UCI Road World Championships. The events included both road races and individual time trials for Junior Men and Women, U23 Men, and Elite Men and Women, as well as a new Mixed Relay Team Time Trial.
